1. Every two weeks, an email is sent out to each department with the list of updates for that period and basic instructions on what to expect. Shortly after this, the TechZone deploys the updates to all TechZone-supported Windows and MacOS computers using the campus security software.
2. When the software is ready for your computer, you'll see a pop-up window. It will ask you to install the security updates within two days. You may be asked to close software which is to be updated. Click 'Take Action' to allow the updates to install. If this is not a convenient time, you can delay for up to 48 hours using the Snooze feature. If you have 'snoozed', follow the instructions in the More about Snoozing section at the bottom of this page.
2. You'll be alerted when the updates are installing. Click Dismiss if you want to close this window:
3. After the updates have installed, you'll be prompted to restart your computer so that your computer is protected. Click 'Take Action' to do this immediately. Use the Snooze feature to delay for up to 48 hours.
Once an update successfully installs on your computer, it won't be re-applied. Sometimes updates fail, usually for these reasons:
The Snooze feature allows you to delay an action until a more convenient time within the next 48 hours. After 48 hours, the pop-up will continuously pop-up in front of your other windows. This is not behavior that we can control, and is intended to encourage you to take the action.
To snooze, click the action in the middle of the pop-up window, select a more appropriate time from the dropdown menu, and click the Snooze button. You'll be prompted to allow the updates at the time you've selected.
