Changing a user password for an operating system

On Windows XP:

Go to Control Panels.
Click on User Accounts.
Click on your account name.
Click on Create a Password.

Type in your new password in each of the top two boxes, then type a password hint in the 3rd box. 

Click Create Password.

If it asks if you'd like to make your account private, generally this is a no.
