The L&S Learning Lab in 215 Van Hise Hall provides an extensive media library, audio and video playback equipment, computers and drop-in study space.
Audiovisual materials for over 100 foreign languages and other Letters & Science courses are available in the Media Library (see our Media Catalog for information on our collection). This collection includes DVDs, videocassettes, CDs and cassettes. The catalog lists available holdings. Our DVD/video collection is also listed in MadCat, the UW-Madison campus library catalog.
Although most current course materials are available online only from the Digital Learning Lab, cassette copies of most tapes in the Media Library collection may still be borrowed by students or faculty. Other materials (DVDs, videocassettes, slides, etc.) may be borrowed by faculty or teaching assistants for use in their classes. Anyone with a valid UW-Madison ID is welcome to borrow DVDs from our 3-day circulating collection of 600+ feature films in 32 languages. Instructors may also place materials on temporary reserve with prior notice. All borrowers, including faculty, must present a valid UW-Madison ID to use materials.
The lab has several self-contained DVD and video players/monitors, which include region-free and world viewing capabilities. Students can view DVDs and videotapes on these machines.
