A New Website for a New Year

January 20, 2009 by Bruno Browning

On January 9, 2009 we launched a new
website, with a new look and what we hope people will find to be
improved functionality. The site features a new theme, and
navigation informed in part by usability research conducted by
UW-Madison libraries. The homepage has shifted to include frequently
changing news and events. Users can subscribe to news content via
RSS.

While all the functionality from the
previous site remains in the new site, old bookmarks may need to be
updated. And we’re not done yet: the next phase of the website will
include additional tools and resources for teaching and learning with
technology in the College of Letters and Science.

The website was developed entirely
in-house. The primary web development team consisted of:

  • Doug Worsham - project management
    and site development
  • Lisa Jansen - transition
  • David Macasaet - graphic design

Special thanks to Brian Deith for
server migration support and to LSS staff for providing content,
feedback, and technical expertise. I think that everyone involved has
done a great job, and I know that they, like myself, would welcome
feedback.

For more information about the
technology behind the site, see http://lss.wisc.edu/about-site.
Best wishes for the new semester and the new year!
