Workshop: Get started with Syntax Untangler!

October 19, 2011 by Doug Worsham

Over lunch you’ll create your own online game for your students to play right away, drilling them on how to recognize and parse any sort of small-scale textual structure, in any language or script.

Date: Nov. 1, 2011

Time:  Noon - 1 pm

Location: 274 Van Hise Hall

During the brownbag, Alan Ng, author of Syntax Untangler and a graduate of our own German Department (PhD 2002), will share tips on:

  • how to use the simple tools in the online authoring tool to create sophisticated multi-stage analysis activities
  • how to embed Syntax Untangler in Learn@UW
  • how to make your game engaging and powerful

Formal evaluations conducted last year showed measurable improvements in student performance after using Syntax Untangler, a learning gain equal to a face-to-face teaching hour, and definite student enthusiasm for using Syntax Untangler to practice and learn.
