LSS Computer Classroom Gets Makeover

LSS recently upgraded the computer classroom in room 274 Van Hise Hall. The laptops are gone and have been replaced with:

 

  • Mac minis capable of running both Mac and Windows programs
  • 22" LCD monitors
  • better web cameras

Laptop checkout quota news

The UW InfoLabs have implemented a limit on the number of laptops that can be checked out per semester.  This was implemented to increase the availability of laptops.  It will not affect most patrons, since only a very few actually use a laptop more than 20 times.   If you checked a laptop out last semester, you will receive an email notification of the change.  The quota system is also referenced in your confirmation emails when you check a laptop out.

The LSS AV Pool will open Tuesday, January 19. The Learning Lab and InfoLab will open on Wednesday, January 20.

LSS Closed on Wednesday, December 9

SnowflakeAll LSS offices, labs and facilities will be closed on Wednesday, December 9, 2009. We expect to reopen on Thursday, December 10.

Equipment, DVDs, tapes, and other items due on December 8 may be returned December 9.

LSS Welcomes Jonathan Klein

L&S Learning Support Services is happy to welcome Jonathan Klein to LSS!  Jonathan will be part of the LSS Media Services team and focus on video production, video editing and instructional technology consulting.

Prior to joining LSS, Jonathan worked for the Wisconsin State Senate as a digital media and communications coordinator, providing video production services, web development support and general technology consulting. He is currently working on a M.S. of Information and Communication Technology with an emphasis in e-Learning.

What kind of sensitive data lives on your computer?

When a computer has been broken into, one of the questions that I will ask the end user is "Do you have any sensitive data on this machine?"

What is "sensitive data"?  Well, anything that might be used to steal someone's identity.
