How to turn your iPod into a boombox

Connecting your iPod to a speaker from the AV Pool is easy

While most people use portable media players (like the iPod) for solitary listening, these players work just as well when playing back audio files to a small or large group. All you need is a powered speaker and the right audio cables.

If you have a portable media player, you'll find everything else you need in the L&S LSS AV Pool. You can reserve the speaker (and cables) online, by calling 262-1678 or dropping by 275 Van Hise. Read more »

According to the 2008 Academic Technology Survey Report, the top teaching challenge for faculty, instructional staff and TAs in the College of Letters & Science is making lecture more interactive and engaging. Video Editing Help Available at LSS

LSS has a number of video screencasts that demonstrate how to edit video with Apple's video editing software, iMovie and Final Cut Pro. Screencasts are particularily useful to get a sense of a particular work-flow, and have the added benefit of being able to fast-forward, rewind, and skim through the video.

The tutorials using Final Cut Pro 6 take the viewer through a typical process of editing a lecture: trimming the beginning and ending, adding text and transitions. Read more »

LSS Foreign Film Collection Continues to Grow

Each year the UW-Madison campus and Van Hise Hall host several summer language learning programs. L&S Learning Support Services has received a grant from the Friends of UW-Madison Libraries to purchase contemporary films in support of these programs:

•    Arabic and Persian Immersion Program
•    BALSSI (Baltic Studies Summer Institute, including Latvian, Lithuanian and Estonian)
•    SASLI (South Asian Summer Language Institute)
•    SEASSI (Southeast Asian Summer Studies Institute)

The films are in DVD format and can be checked out for three days to anyone with a UW-Madison ID. The collection is located in the Learning Lab, 259 Van Hise Hall. Summer hours are Monday-Friday, 10 am to 4 pm through August 7. See the Hours page for more hours.
