What's New: Fall 2001
New Multimedia Classrooms
Van Hise Hall now has an additional twelve classrooms equipped with
multimedia capabilties. These were funded primarily by UW Space
Management, who also has primary responsibility for their support
(see Classroom Media Support). However, LSS also provides assistance,
primarily in the use of the equipment.
The rooms are: 159, 367 (seminar), 475, 483, 486 (seminar), 487,
491, 494, 495, 499, 575, 579.
Each is equipped with a multi-standard VCR (NTSC, PAL, SECAM),
DVD (and CD) players, sound system, and data projector. These new
projectors are very bright and have excellent color balance.
Scheduling for these rooms is handled by pre-assignment (LSS) or
by TACS (once the timetable deadline is past). Questions about these
rooms, and other multimedia rooms in Van Hise, can be directed to
Read Gilgen (2-1408).
AV Pool
In addition to the new equipment acquired last year (see below),
the AV Pool has added 6 CD-Player/Boomboxes. These offer excellent
sound, but aren't as durable as the more expensive units we purchased
in the past. We hope the cost/feature ratio will work out in the
long run. Tell us what you think!
SPL
The Special Projects Lab has new and upgraded equipment and software,
both for the Mac and the PC. Contact Lisa Jansen (2-1126) to schedule
an appointment to use the lab, or for more information.
