Dubbing Services

Duplication of non-copyrighted videotapes is possible in 3/4" U-MATIC, BetaMAX, BetaCAM SP, VHS, Hi8, Mini-DV or DVCAM formats. Editing is available for L&S faculty and staff in VHS and Mini-DV formats. Titles, audio on several formats and graphics may be added in the editing process. Signal conversion of foreign (non-NTSC) format to US (NTSC) format and vise-versa are also available.

THE VRC WILL MAKE VIDEOTAPE COPIES UNDER THE FOLLOWING CIRCUMSTANCES:

OFF-AIR (Satellite/Broadcast/Cablecast) Videotaping:

  • For in class and/or LSS lab playback use only, videotapes will be kept for 10 days and then erased.
  • If copyright permission is being sought, the tape will be kept for a total of 45 days and then erased if said permission has not been received.

DUPLICATION OF VIDEOTAPES

Standard NTSC-NTSC format:

  • No copying any broadcast TV productions (movies, shows, commercials), purchased videos (professionally produced), or rental videotapes without written copyright permission from the producer of the original work.

Foreign Format Conversions:

  • The VRC will not convert foreign/US broadcast TV without written copyright permission.
  • The VRC will convert "purchased" foreign/US videotapes only if:
    • No playback machines are available to play the format of a given tape, if used in a building other than Van Hise Hall
    • A reasonable attempt has been made to see if the given tape can be purchased in the needed format.
    • The tape is to be used "for instructional purposes only."

For L & S Faculty:

Foreign videotapes will be converted with the copy available and the original in LSS master tape storage. When copies are no longer used, they are to be erased and the originals given back to the owner of the tape. No charge is made for this service.

Other Campus Colleges/Schools:

A service charge will be made to other schools using the above mentioned service.

Videotapes that have no copyright restrictions (e.g. home videos) may be copied depending upon staff and equipment availability at the current published rate.
