Satellite Services
Television programs sent via satellite (not local broadcast or
cable) can be recorded off-the-air for short term use, providing
copyright guidelines are met. This is a free service for instructors
from the College of Letters and Science. These requests are to be
made by faculty and/or instructional staff who want to use these
programs for teaching purposes. If the program is to be kept beyond
45 days, licensing and purchasing agreements must be made. The satellite
schedule may be interrupted in order to meet the satellite needs
of campus. For a detailed satellite schedule, click
here.
Programming Services
There are many other foreign language programs and other programs
available for those who are interested in using Satellite TV for
instruction. Current copies of satellite programming guides which
contain many program listings is available for browsing in the VRC
main office, 299 Van Hise Hall.
Campus Downlink Service
LSS Satellite Service has been offering satellite downlinking to
the Madison campus since 1985. Our current charge for downlinking
is $22 per hour (which includes monitoring by professional staff)
for users outside the College of Letters and Science. We can also
record a downlink for the cost of a blank videocassette ($2.00 for
a 2 hour tape). A telephone can be made available in any of our
rooms for satellite conferencing. For a complete list of downlink
charges, click here.
