Print duplex... save a tree!

The InfoLab now has DUPLEX printing.   You do end up paying for each side, so it doesn't cost less, but you are saving resources.

By default, the printing will be single-sided.

Summer at Learning Support Services

L&S Learning Support Services is open all summer long!

Not only are LSS staff available to assist with summer and fall courses, but also items from the AV Pool and media collection are available for reservation and checkout (even when the AV Pool and Learning Lab are closed.) Summer hours are listed below.

H2 Recorders: Using them as USB microphones

The H2 recorder available in the AV Pool and Infolab not only works as a stand alone recorder, but also as a USB microphone for programs like Audacity. This can save time and trouble in transferring the files and dealing with space limitations on the H2 itself. There are however a few quick steps you need to follow to use the H2 in this mode. Learning Lab and InfoLab open September 6

The Learning Lab and InfoLab will be open on Tuesday, September 6, from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Regular hours will begin on Wednesday, September 7. See http://lss.wisc.edu/hours for schedule.

Infolab: Flip Cameras and H2 Audio Recorders!

With a seemingly constant flow of people in and out of the room, the Van Hise Infolab, room 464, has become a “go-to” spot for many of UW’s students and faculty. Whether printing an assignment for class, checking the latest news updates, or simply avoiding the cold temperatures outside, the Infolab has a lot to offer its customers. In addition to housing 45 dual boot computers, equipment is available for checkout. Awesome!

Adapters: Choosing one to project from your laptop

Formatting the external LaCie hard drives

Your LaCie drive should be formatted as FAT32 when you check it out from the InfoLab.   See the table below for information about each type of format.  Below the table are instructions for formatting the drive from a Mac or Windows computer.

Note that when you use the drive in Windows, you should use both of the USB cables.  One USB cable transfers the files, the other provides power to the device.

FAT32:
Pro: Mac OS & Windows can read and save on the drive
Con: Files must be smaller than 4 GB in size. Read more »

at http://www.sealang.net/library.  It is highly recommended as an excellent set of online dictionaries for mainland Southeast Asian languages.  This website provides "bilingual and monolingual dictionaries, monolingual text corpora, aligned bitext corpora, and a variety of tools for manipulating, searching, and displaying complex scripts."
