How to delete a corrupted Settings.LiveUpdate file
Sometimes the Settings.LiveUpdate files can become corrupted, resulting in this error. Make sure that Windows is set to show all files and file extensions, Search for the file and then, follow these steps:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CAUTION: The Settings.LiveUpdate file is contained in the \Symantec\LiveUpdate folder. This folder contains settings and configuration files for LiveUpdate and one or more subfolders. If you search for this file as directed, you will find only this file (and several older copies such a 1.Settings.LiveUpdate, which can also be deleted.) If you use an alternate method to locate this file, make sure that you delete only Settings.LiveUpdate. Do not delete the entire \Symantec\LiveUpdate folder or the Product.Catalog.LiveUpdate file. If you do this, you must reinstall all Symantec products in order for LiveUpdate to work properly.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Start Windows Explorer.
Click the View menu (Windows 95/98/NT) or the Tools menu (Windows Me/2000), and then click Options or Folder options.
Click the View tab.
Uncheck "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Do one of the following:
Windows 95/NT. Click "Show all files."
Windows 98. In the Advanced settings box, under the "Hidden files" folder, click Show all files.
Windows Me/2000/XP. Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and under the "Hidden files" folder, click "Show hidden files and folders."
