1. I'm having problems reading the Adobe Acrobat PDFs.The best thing you can do is download and install the latest Adobe Acrobat Reader. This is available from the following sources.
Then, after it has been installed, go to the menu item farthest to the right, called "Help". Click "Check for Updates" and run any updates they recommend. There might be several. Not only will this help you view your PDF readings, but older versions of Adobe Acrobat Reader have had security vulnerabilities and an update can protect your computer. 2. My browser can't/won't display the course! If you have certain pieces of software that block popups installed on your computer, you will be unable to view certain parts of this class. To discover if you have a popup blocker installed on a particular browser, one way is to check your toolbar. Sometimes things like Yahoo toolbar or the Google toolbar are set up to block popups by default. Also, try clicking into the class while holding down the shift key. This is a signal to disable popup blocking in some applications. Alternatively, you should probably uninstall programs that do this, or at least allow it from the class site. There should be a way to allow popups from certain URL's in most blocker programs. Another way to test what is wrong is to try it in another browser. If it doesn't work in Internet Explorer, try it in Mozilla Firefox or Opera, for example. If you aren't familiar with these other free browsers, you can download and install them from the following websites.
3. My browser says I need to upgrade/install the flash plugin. This course uses Macromedia Flash to display multimedia materials. If you don't have the newest Macromedia Flash plugin, you may have problems seeing some materials for this class. Additionally, older versions of Macromedia Flash have security vulnerabilities. You should upgrade your Flash plug-in. The most recent version is available by going to this website. 4. I can't hear any sound/video associated with the course. There are many reasons why sound or video might not work. Here are some things to check.
5. Why is this document in the course? If I'm having problems logging into the course, I will never see this page! It's also posted on my website, and I can send the URL of that page to anyone, even if they don't have access to the website. My website is http://lss.wisc.edu/~sara/ and the page in question is http://lss.wisc.edu/~sara/troubleshoot.html |
