GETTING STARTED

PRODUCTION SPACES

Health and safety updates for Fall 2020

Building Access:

  • The first-floor front doors to Van Hise Hall are open from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Friday.
  • Van Hise Hall staff have WiscCard perimeter access to the building

The building manager and acting director of LSS have pre-approved building access for staff and instructors who are recording instructional materials in LSS studios. It is the responsibility of each individual instructor to obtain permission from his or her department chair to access the building.

Masks: Upon entering the building, everyone is required to wear a cloth face mask until campus guidelines change. Exceptions to this rule include:

  • While recording socially distanced in Studio 368
  • While recording privately in Studio 248

Employees and patrons will be asked to wash/change cloth masks daily.

Patrons are asked to self-monitor and are required to cancel any appointments if they are feeling unwell.

Elevators: Elevators should be avoided, if possible. Only one person may occupy an elevator at a time. Rules will be posted outside the elevators.

Bathrooms:

  • No more than one person in a bathroom at any time.
  • Employees must use bathrooms on the floor they are working on to minimize traffic.
  • To check if a bathroom is available, staff must knock first or call into the bathroom asking if it is available. If there is no response, they may enter. If the bathroom is occupied, they should wait outside until the space is available or use a bathroom on another floor if use is urgent.
  • All surfaces touched must be cleaned after use. Sanitizing supplies, including gloves, and EPA approved disinfectant wipes will be provided and stored in bathrooms on floors 1-3.
  • Bathrooms will be cleaned by custodial staff every day.
  • Rules for bathroom use will be posted on the doors.

Break Rooms: All breakrooms on floors 1-3 and the vending machines area on the third floor will be closed due to it being a small space and high-touch area. Staff must bring their own lunch and take a break either outside the building or in their offices. Shared breakroom supplies, utensils, and appliances including refrigerators, toasters, coffee makers, and microwaves may not be used.

Studio 248

The 248 Van Hise audio studio will be reservable as a BYOD, self-service area for recording instructional audio and video in a sound isolated environment. All surfaces touched must be cleaned after use. Sanitizing supplies, including gloves, and EPA approved disinfectant wipes will be provided and stored in the lab.

SAMPLE PROJECTS

A sample portfolio of projects can be found at L&S Learning Support Services on YouTube

TERMS OF USE

LSS has established two priorities regarding media development that may impact the scheduling of studio space and equipment (especially during periods of peak demand). We prioritize projects as follows:

  1. Projects that use multimedia as part of ongoing LSS and College initiatives (e.g. Online Course Development)
  2. Continuity of Instruction projects, coordinated through L&S Batch Leads
  3. Instructional multimedia developed within the College of Letters & Science, and intended for use by students in UW-Madison for-credit courses

Requests that fall outside these priorities may be taken on by the media development staff on a case-by-case basis, depending on scheduling and capacity.

COST/PRICING

Due to the wide variety of projects and funding categories on campus, please contact us for an estimate. Fees apply for professional services, but we offer self-service options whenever possible.
